What this means for you

$7.99 a month now bought Disney+ with ads and without downloads. It was an extra option, not a lower price: the entry price stayed $7.99.

Evidence

Disney+ Basic (With Ads) launched in the US on December 8, 2022 at $7.99/month with no annual option, alongside the Disney Bundle Duo Basic (Disney+ and Hulu, both with ads, $9.99) and Trio Basic (Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+, all with ads, $12.99). Disney said Basic has the full catalog, streaming on up to four devices at once and 4K Ultra HD where supported, but not Downloads, GroupWatch, SharePlay or Dolby Atmos at launch. Until that day ad-free Disney+ had cost $7.99/month; from it, ad-free became Disney+ Premium at $10.99/month.
