With Keep Activity on, a sample of the files and photos you upload to Gemini is now used to improve Google services

What this means for you
If Keep Activity is on, some of the files, photos and screens you share with Gemini may be used to improve Google's services and AI models, including with human reviewers. Turning the setting off or using Temporary Chats avoids this.

- Turn off Keep Activity in Gemini's settings, or use a Temporary Chat for uploads you don't want used.

Google's August 13, 2025 post: 'In the coming weeks, your "Gemini Apps Activity" setting will be renamed "Keep Activity." When this setting is on, a sample of your future uploads will be used to help improve Google services for everyone.' A footnote says this 'Applies to uploads submitted starting September 2, 2025'; a setting that was off stays off. The Gemini Apps Privacy Hub said on September 1, 2025: 'Google doesn’t currently train its generative AI models using your uploaded files, unless you include them in your feedback.' By September 10, 2025 it said that with Keep Activity on, 'what you share with Gemini (like files, videos, screens, and photos)' is saved and 'Google uses your activity to provide, develop, and improve its services (including training generative AI models)'.
