What this means for you

Magazines now share the same 20 slots as books, audiobooks and comics, so reading magazines leaves less room for books. New issues no longer arrive on their own; you borrow each one.

What you can do

How we know

  1. Amazon's help page says from Apr 22, 2026 each borrowed magazine issue counts toward the 20-title borrow limit.

  2. The same page says members could previously borrow up to 50 magazine issues, and new issues are no longer delivered automatically.

  3. An archived copy of the help page from Jun 12, 2026 shows the new rule.

Full research notes

Amazon's help page "Understanding the Kindle Unlimited Subscription and Benefits" (live check September 26, 2026) says: "Starting April 22, 2026, each magazine issue you borrow through Kindle Unlimited counts toward your 20-title borrow limit. We also no longer automatically deliver new issues." It adds: "Previously, you could borrow up to 50 magazine issues. By July 30, 2026, if you have more than 20 borrowed titles, we will automatically return the excess." The page still says members can "Borrow up to 20 titles at a time" and that "Magazine issues count toward this 20-title limit." An archived copy of the help page from June 12, 2026 shows the same wording; earlier archived copies of this page are Amazon error pages, so there is no archived before copy. Good e-Reader (April 3, 2026) reported the change ahead of time as US-only and said magazines borrowed before April 22, 2026 would be removed on July 22, 2026; Amazon's page gives July 30, 2026 for returning titles above 20, which is the date used here.
