Discord's File Attachments FAQ, archived August 24, 2024, says: "For non-Nitro subscribers, the maximum file upload is 25MB." By the September 4, 2024 archived copy, Discord's Nitro help article adds "Q: Why do I need Nitro to upload more than 10MB of files?", answering that "Storage management is expensive", that "99% of users stick to files smaller than 10MB", and that "we decided to reduce the free file size upload limit," with Nitro Basic offering 50MB and Nitro up to 500MB. The File Attachments FAQ still said 25MB in archived copies up to January 30, 2025 and says 10MB from April 2, 2025. Dexerto reported the cut on September 4, 2024.
