Duolingo's press release of September 24, 2024 (Duocon 2024) introduced Video Call, an AI-powered tool that 'allows Duolingo Max subscribers to engage in spontaneous, realistic conversations with Lily'. It said 'Video Call is available for Duolingo Max subscribers learning English, Spanish, and French.' Before this, the Max tier's AI features were Explain My Answer and Roleplay (Help Center and blog, March 2023). A press release of January 16, 2025 extended Video Call to Android and to more languages. The Help Center's Max article (archived copy of January 28, 2025) lists three AI features for Max: Explain My Answer, Roleplay and Video Call with Lily.
